Christmas Trees

Contrary to the famous Christmas vacation movie, one cannot just pull up anywhere and chop any tree down they choose. Anyone who does this faces serious fines and even arrest. It doesn’t matter how beautiful that tree will look in the front room, it’s not worth the risk.

It does bring up the question however of how does one go about finding a good Christmas tree. Well there are many options available. There are Nurseries and garden centers that sell them already cut. By simply checking though what they have available, a good tree can usually be found. Look for seals of approval from local forestry commissions. This means that the Christmas trees were cut down from licensed establishment and areas not a protected forest.

There are some areas that will let people actually go out and chop or dig their tree from the ground. This is considered one of the more ecological options because by chopping and leaving the stump, the tree grows back. Also by digging the tree, after Christmas it can be replanted in the front yard or garden.

Different types of Christmas trees offer different advantages. The famous and favorite Norway spruce has fallen from the top spot in recent years. This tree is beautiful but looses its needles quite quickly. Those selecting this type of tree are well advised to keep it watered or there will be loads of vacuuming in the near future.

The blue spruce hasn’t been a popular choice of tree until recent years. However, it holds its needles and gives off a wonderful scent. The Scots pine is also one that is growing in favor for Christmas tress. They are quite bushy and have large needles. They do however hold onto them for quite a while.

There are several good choices one can make when shopping for a Christmas tree. Those that want a shapely tree can have it but may have lots of sweeping to do afterwards. Those that want low maintenence may not get the shape they want but will get other great things in return.
