As much as employers want to avoid it, Christmas and the holidays always manage to creep their way into the work environment. Many employers have adopted a can’t beat them, join them attitude when it comes to Christmas parties and celebrations. However, sometimes people go too far at this time and take advantage. Likewise, some employers can be extra nasty at this time of year and hold the less than professional behaviors against certain employees. In this article we will look at how one can successfully mix Christmas and work.

Once Christmas at work issue that always comes is up drinking alcohol. Sometimes the boss will allow a little lunch time party near to the official closing day. However, some have claimed that they have been reprimanded and even fired for consuming alcohol on the premises during working hours. Well, the sad truth is that in certain sectors of work, this is totally acceptable. Anyone involved in transport or driving should avoid drinking alcohol even if it is at a company party. Alcohol impairs reaction time so anyone in these sectors is putting others at risk.

Parties are quite a Christmas at work issue. Everyone likes to relax and enjoy the food and drink at a work Christmas party. However, one must still remember that just because actual physical work has ceased they are still at the working premises. Limit the drinks and avoid getting completely hammered. The boss is responsible for anything that happens on the premises but the person is responsible for their behavior despite the amount of alcohol they have had. If someone is expected in the next day then avoid excessive intake. Hangovers are not fun when one has to work eight hours and calling in sick will just be asking for trouble.

The boss or supervisor does have a responsibility to those at the party. Have a taxi company ready in case a few over do it. Collect car keys at the beginning of the party and don’t give them back to anyone who is clearly under the influence. Offer alternative drinks to alcohol. Many will take it if it is offered. This way everyone can enjoy the party without risking their lives.

It is possible to have Christmas at work. Parties can be has without over doing it and those that choose to over indulge can be taken home safely. Everyone loves a good Christmas party and to have Christmas at work. It is important however that everyone does their part and act responsibly.
